Dead Man's Snitch Alternative: SensaCat

Dead Man's Snitch invented this category and still does one thing well. The question is whether one thing is enough.

SensaCat is the alternative worth considering if your silent failures include expiring credentials, domains or certificates. Dead Man's Snitch is still the better pure cron tool, and it has been doing that job since 2012.

Plan details below are from deadmanssnitch.com/plans, read September 2026.

What Dead Man's Snitch does well

Unlimited team members on every paid plan, starting at $5 a month, is the most quietly generous pricing decision in this category. Cronitor charges $5 per seat. UptimeRobot sells login seats separately. Dead Man's Snitch just includes them.

Exit-code failure reporting through Field Agent means a job that fails loudly reports the failure immediately, rather than waiting for silence to be inferred. That is the right design and it is available from the $5 tier.

Smart Alerts on the $49 Surveillance Van plan adapt to a job's observed behaviour instead of a fixed interval, which cuts the false positives that plague rigid schedules.

The gap: three snitches, then a jump

The free Lone Snitch plan is exactly one snitch. Little Birdy at $5 gives you three, then the next step is Private Eye at $19 for 100. If you have eight jobs, you are paying $19 a month for 92 snitches you will not use.

Integrations are gated to the $19 tier and above. Smart Alerts and Error Notices are gated to $49. On the $5 plan you get email and basic intervals.

Coverage is cron and cron only. No SSL, no domain expiry, no credential tracking, and no way to express that step two of a five-step order process never happened for order 8821 specifically.

Who should stay on Dead Man's Snitch

Stay if you monitor three or fewer jobs, or if you have a large team and the unlimited-members pricing is saving you real money. At $5 a month with unlimited seats it is hard to argue against, and the reliability record over fourteen years speaks for itself.

Switch when you find yourself paying $19 for 100 snitches to monitor eight jobs, or when the failures that actually hurt turn out to be an expired Stripe key rather than a missed cron run.
